The health and safety of Veolia ES Waste-to-Energy personnel are among the Veolia ES core values. Health and safety excellence is just as vital as operational and commercial excellence. Personal protection is a priority in the areas of accident prevention, health and safety. The continuous improvement initiatives on the sharing of ideas and the development and dissemination of a real “culture of safety” are the basis of our safety program.
The Veolia ES Waste-to-Energy safety policy states:
Each and every employee has a responsibility to their fellow employees to practice safety in the performance of their duties. Our company is dedicated, first and foremost, to provide a workplace for our employees and visitors where they, and their families, know they are protected from harm and free from injury.
As part of this policy, Veolia ES Waste-to-Energy subscribes to the OSHA Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) ideals, in that safety goes beyond the minimum standards set forth in regulations, has employee participation, and that our facilities strive for and maintain the elements of the OSHA VPP “Star” program or equivalent. Each of the 4 elements: Management Commitment and Employee Involvement; Hazard Prevention and Control; Worksite Analysis; and Safety and Health Training; is crucial to the total program.
Currently, five Veolia ES Waste-to-Energy facilities have been accepted into the Voluntary Protection Program as “Star” worksites. Others are in various stages of preparation to meet the rigorous standards set by OSHA. Of the nearly 7,000,000 workplaces in the United States, only approximately 2,200 have been accepted into the program.
